Designs of Tirla

The above photo shows a stern view from the port side. Note the boarding walkway. One of the twin tillers can be see, the cream curved object, these are attached to steering ropes to allow the wheel to operate in the central area of the boat. The Hydovane steering is on the back beam to the right and as we are in port its wind vane and rudder are detached. The four dark objects on the beam lockers each side of the mizzen mast are the solar panels. Each gives up to 2 Amps per hour in full midday sun. These are linked to electrical regulators to stop the batteries from being fried! Our two dinghies can be seen, the rubber one moored under the boat (harbours only ) and the aluminium sailing one is stored on deck. Note the clean lines of the boat and is beam which gives us stability. Above the stern ensign on the same post are the twin GPS aerials and the Naxtex antenna.

The above picture shows a view of Tirla in Sabena harbour in February 2000. Note the wide beam and the distinctive Pahi upturned bows. Due to our light weight, about 7 tons fully loaded, we can sail fast with a low aspect rig of some 90 sq. meters of sail. We weight about half that of the larger monohull which is along side us. The radar scanner can clearly be seen near the top of the mizzen mast. The furling jib runs from the main mast to the bow.
