Rain!
This is the first rain for 11 days and this will cause us a problem. Most of the remaining pre-launch work is painting or antifouling and so we will loose a day. Still we can work below sorting out the boat. The mains heaters and sewing machine will be stored away and the chart table reorganised ready for the next trip, charts likely to be used put in order and the pilot books re-read and distances checked between ports. I'm also trying out our new zip disk on which we can store and send by post 100 megabyte disk, I've altered the unit to run off the ships supply. We need it if we are going to send Mpeg "movies" to our son for the web site. They will be over a megabyte each and as such it's out of the question to send them via our portable phone connection. The next generation of phones will be able to do that but not yet.
The rain is tapping away on the coach roof and we even had porridge for breakfast!
It's said it will be sunny again tomorrow but followed by more rain. I hope not.
It's now 18.10 hrs and the rain did stop enough for me to begin antifouling the new areas of the lower keel. I also sanded down some areas to be treated with epoxy paint.
Where ropes rub or there is very heavy usage we like to keep these areas as protected as possible. This spring we are putting small stainless steel "pads" which will save a lot of small areas of wear.

Saturday evening

March is going out like a lion! Every mast in the boat yards is like a detuned musical instrument. What a cacophony of sound. Halyards are banging and some boat covers are flogging themselves to pieces. The first part of a gale is building up and it's currently blowing top of force 6 going to force 7 gusting 8. Rain is hammering down onto the ship's side and we have lots to do before we can launch!
Will we manage to launch next week?
Where will we get to by the end of April?
Well you'll have to await the next email!!
