We are very impressed with the Greek wines, their variety and quality. As with anything, you get what you pay for. In the supermarkets the choice is very wide and we prefer to eat as the locals do in whatever country we are in. That way you learn more and eat better! The food is fresh and due to the climate the fruit and vegetables in the Mediterranean are wonderful. Often in an area certain things in food and drink stand out. Here for us in the Ionian it's especially the olives, feta cheese, tomatoes, greek yoghurt, Levkas brandy, charcoal cooked Taverna meals and the many fresh warm types of bread.

As I walked around there was a real spring in the air. The first swallows were about ans the town bustled. Buildings old and new warmed up in the sun. The Greeks still went around in coats and pullovers as if it was freezing in England. I guess it's a question of what you are used too. In town I met a sailing acquaintance from last year with his young daughter. He came back to Tirla and while waiting for the ferry passed the time telling us all about the options for wintering in Turkey. It was a most useful chat, as he knew the locations so well.

We spent the rest of the day storing all our purchases.
