We followed the steep walkways on a direct route up the 200 meters to the top of the castle. Luckily the rain stopped and being a cool day the climb was a pleasant one. All the time the views got better and better. The Gulf of Corinth was laid out before us. In the distance the flashing strobe lights on the cranes building the new bridge were clearly visible. These were the obstructions we passed at night on passage to Trezonia.

The castle certainly is an impressive construction with many walls and gates.
It dominates the whole town. The castle has been the subject of an EEC grant and a lot of work has been done to make it more accessible. At the very top of the castle is a chapel and a huge water cistern for times of siege.
