Soon we will be booking our flights back to the boat via Athens and a long bus ride to Preveza. It's too early for the tourist flights straight to the airport near where Tirla is laid up. Still, it's time for us to pack our bags again and go off to London, then, shortly after, by plane to Scotland for our final visit to relatives before our journey with Tirla starts again.

London

The flight from London City airport started with a take off from beside the Victoria and Albert docks. These are said to be the largest man-made enclosed areas of dock in the world. However I'm sure there are larger ones elsewhere by now. The aircraft climbed quickly towards the 200 metre high Canary Wharf Towers and then pulled right to fly under the Heathrow incoming planes to set off up to the North of Britain to Dundee. In Dundee we met our son, who runs this web site for us, and our daughter-in-law. The new changes to the site were planned and hopefully you are now beginning to see the results of our deliberations!

While in Dundee, we visited Shackleton's Antarctic sailing vessel "HMS Discovery". She is now permanently docked next to a building that contains much information on Shackleton's 19th century expeditions. He and his crew made an attempt to be the first people to get to the South Pole. In the end a Norwegian team got there before them. Shackleton and several of his party lost their lives when blizzards cut them off and stores ran out during the overland march.
Here is a photo of the "HMS DISCOVERY" in Dundee.
