We arrived in Athens on Thursday 1st March after a three and a half hour flight from Luton England. That was followed by a 6 hour bus journey and lastly a 20 minute taxi ride! The weather was sleet storms with heavy rain, even so it was a lot warmer than London. From our daughter's London flat to the boat was 15 hours travelling. The marina staff welcomed us like the first swallows of summer!
There are three yards who store boats at Aktion, I think some 1500 vessels are here. As yet very few are getting ready to launch. Tirla has wintered well and was dry below with no visible effect of the Greek winter. We hear they had a very dry and mild November to March. We slept for 15 hours the first night but have now got down to resuscitating Tirla. I've put on the mains charger, the batteries were well topped up by our solar panels, set up some of the navigation equipment, and installed our new PC with the ships data and electronic charts. I got all the sails back on deck and cleared out the many items we had stored below. Today the temperature got up to 20C so I varnished a few things and prepared to get the mainsail, mizzen and genoa back on the spars. Our jobs list has 39 items but most of them are small matters!
It's strange to be back but in a few days it will feel as if we have never been away.

Work on Tirla is progressing well and the weather is wonderful. I've been feeling that Greek sun on my back at last. Lots of small jobs are done including repainting the tiller bars, and putting the sails back on the spars.

In the
photo to the left Fae zips the sail round the mast. The Tiki
rig is a Wharram invention and the sail has a .75 metre pocket
which causes a perfect wing shape to form around the standard
alloy tube of the mast. The short gaff can also clearly be
seen. |
