We motored over to Skiathos harbour two days ago taking the advantage of calm morning winds. One engine still not working. At the quay at Skiathos Andrew, whom we had met on his boat at Panormou, helped me warp the boat onto the visitors pontoon.
Michael Carroll had mentioned that "Lucas" was the man to solve our engine problem. This proved to be the case and the carburettor was the reason we could not get the port engine to keep running. At last we are a boat with TWO working engines!
The weather is dull windy and cold!
Skiathos is a striking place with excellent shelter from the north winds and planes that bring tourists land by over flying the harbour and landing very close to the town.
The season is just beginning and the tavernas and shops are either open or opening on the 15th of May. Early English visitors can be seen wandering around in shorts sporting winter white knees. We have continued to be impressed by the Northern Sporades and look forward to visiting all of the little anchorages once the weather, which is dull and rainy today, settles down. However if an increasingly rare spring south wind begins to blow we will take that opportunity to get up to
Khalkidhiki.
