On one engine we moored stern-to the new quay at Patitiri yesterday. It's just been altered and as such is being rebuilt, and lorries carrying ballast are thundering around back-filling behind the new concrete quay which has been moved out some 10 metres to make the road beside the harbour wider.

This harbour is one of the cleanest we have been in. All the houses on this island have to have separate cesspits. It's also a very attractive wooded bay with walks giving excellent views down onto the harbour area.
I will work on the starboard engine tomorrow.

Strong NE winds are predicted and a slight swell in the harbour has already begun.
The original capital of Alonnisos was a high hill village. In the 60's, the village was destroyed by a violent earthquake. In the last ten years there has not been any earthquakes bad enough to destroy houses. The government hastily built small concrete houses for the displaced villagers down by the bay at Patitiri. These are still being lived in today. They are single story and as such are ideal for resisting any further big quakes. The picture below shows some of these structures.

Note the rotavator "lorry" which are very common in Greece and used to carry all sorts of loads at low speeds.
