It began to rain heavily so we sheltered in one of the buildings. The remoteness of the location would have protected the Monks and gave them space away from the hectic world. Today it's much easier, a bus goes from Skiathos to here several times a day!
The walk back was a lot easier and by the time we got aboard again we felt the hills had stretched our muscles somewhat.
Once the wind abates we will spend a month exploring the Northern Sporades before heading to the Eastern Sporades.

We left Skiathos, spent some time at Panourmou, then sailed to Steni Vala on Alonnisos. The weather has at last got warmer and blue skies prevail. The sea is still remarkably cold for the time of year. We hope to go further north to the uninhabited islands particularly Pelegos where there is a good sheltered anchorage at the southern end of the island.
Steni Vala is a very attractive inlet with its own special atmosphere. It is very sheltered from the prevailing northerly winds. In its clear waters it's easy to see fresh water filtering down from the hills into the salty sea.
