15.00hrs

Very warm today at sea as there are no clouds. It's 23.6C but feels much hotter as the blazing sun reflects off the sea all around. Fae is tracking, by radar, a large coaster, which will pass close to us and has right of way. In the distance and shrouded in the mist is the Holy mountain of Athos. Two hours ago we passed whales, we think they were Culviers Beaked Whales. One was cream the other black. They seemed asleep on the surface but slowly sank when we got near. However looking back in our wake some ten minutes later they breached and frolicked around.

The large coaster is moving fast and will pass ahead of us, going no doubt to Thessaloniki from Istanbul. Around us are miles of sea and no other yachts and only that large ship now two miles away.

One of our pilot books, Greek Waters Pilot by Rod Heikell, suggests there is no drinking water available at Porto Koufo. With one engine running for so long we have used up surplus energy by making water. Some 20 litres to top up our tanks. The Port of Koufo is said to be one of the most magnificent natural harbours in the Med. Sheer red cliffs guard the entrance and behind a small bay opens up. All we can see as we approach are the "sheer red cliffs"! Luckily it's a very calm day.

Above Fae wonders when the entrance will show itself!
Note the large grey fenders blown up ready for use.

Through the cliffs and anchored in 9 metres off Porto Koufo.
